My first group shoot.  A roommate of a friend is creating an entire 40 minute dance show from scratch (how wild is that! choreography, music, everything) for the Capital Fringe Festival (specific information below) so we went out with some of the other dancers to take pictures at Meridian Hill Park.  There were quite a few things that I learned from this experience:
  • Meridian Hill park is not that pretty coming out of winter.  You may remember a shoot I did last fall, but that had leaves and colors and such.  It did not help that it was overcast and chilly (kudos to the girls for sticking it out.  I'm sure their feet were freezing.)
  • When we started, I wasn't sure if I should tell them what to do or not.  It didn't help that I didn't really know how I wanted them to pose.  Hmmm... this lead to:
  • We would start a shot and everyone would kind of just start free-styling movements.  This would lead to lots of pictures with 3 of the girls being in pose and one in between.  Arg.  In retrospect (hindsight is 20/20, right?) I would have had one of them count out 8-counts, and at the end of the 8 count everyone should be in a pose.  File that one away for future reference.
But ANYWAY, after all of that, I thought a lot of the shots came out really well!  We started at the fountain, and moved to a surprisingly sturdy tree.  If you can imagine 4 women all free-styling dance poses would gain some attention, well, it certainly did.  In fact one guy stopped, and I thought at first was taking pics on his iphone.  But then he held it up for a while so I think he was taking video.  If I had know that I'd have told him to beat it.  And we ended up at the drum circle, and then a few shots with the cello. Thanks girls! Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Wow, that was a lot of text; onto the pictures!
